چکیده :

Listeria spp. are Gram positive, short, non-sporing, microaerophilic rods. Of the six species currently recognized, Listeria monocytogenes is the most important as it causes a range of infections in humans and animals. The present study was undertaken to determine the occurrence of Listeria species in retail poultry meat products in Isfahan, Iran. A total of 52 sample of various poultry meat products, including: chicken (n=30), turkey (n=10) and ostrich (n=12) obtained from retail stores in Isfahan and detected by using standard culture methods and biochemical tests. Out of 52 samples 12 (23.07%) were positive for Listeria spp. The occurrence of Listeria spp. in samples of chicken, turkey and ostrich meat was 20, 30 and 25% respectively. Only one sample was contaminated with L. monoctogenes (1.92%) and other samples were contaminated with L. innocua (21.15%).
