Purpose - This survey aims at providing an appropriate prototype for the Digital Reference Desk of the National Library of Iran.
Design/methodology/approach – Using a content analysis method, thirty-three Digital Reference Desks of the world national libraries, which offer their services in English, are examined in the study. A checklist was used to gather the data based on the specialists’ points of view.
Findings - Findings show that 22 features were suggested important and crucial by specialists to be included in the model. The results of the study also revealed that there is a considerable difference between the present situation of the studied Digital Reference Desks and the optimum situation suggested by Iranian specialists
