During a faunal study of thrips in Ilam province in the years 2014–2015, specimens of Thrips carthami Shumsher (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) were collected on leaves of almond trees from Zagros forests (Gachan Mountain). This species is newly recorded for fauna of Iran. The new record increases the known Thrips species in Iran to 34 species. Diagnostic morphological characters and the geographical distribution of the newly recorded thrips are given.
