چکیده :

Background and Aim : In this study Vitamin E (Vit E) as a well-known antioxidant was aimed to evaluate of its protective effects on sperm quality parameters in the PHZ treated mice. Methods : 32 adult male NMRI mice (8-10 weeks old) weight, 26±2 g were divided into four groups. Group1 (Control) received normal saline (0.1 ml/day, IP).Group 2 (PHZ) was treated with phenylhydrazine (PHZ) 8 mg/100gr/b.w, IP for the starting dose and followed by 6 mg/100g/b.w/48h, IP. Group 3 (PHZ+Vit E) received PHZ as same as group 2 along with Vit E (100 IU/kg/day, IP). Group 4 received only Vit E at same dose of group 3. After 35 of treatment all animals were euthanized and the epididymal sperms were isolated. Results : Then the total mean sperm count, sperm viability, sperm morphology and motility were determined. The total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of all groups was also evaluated. The results showed significant decrease in sperm count and normal morphology of sperm and MDA concentration in mice treated with PHZ in comparison with control and PHZ+Vit E groups increased significantly. However, Vit E in PHZ+Vit E group caused partial amelioration in all above mentioned parameters, moreover it increased the TAC and decreased the MDA in comparison to PHZ group (P<0.05). Conclusion : In conclusion these data suggested that PHZ administration could exert adverse effects on sperm quality and Vit E along with PHZ ameliorate these toxic effects.
