Focus group on quality of life alteration in family of patient with Alzheimer

Introduction and objective: Family contains persons with common goals and thought who live together. Based on this systematic look to family, every alteration in every member of family system, changes all parts of this system. Thus, suffering from Alzheimer disease in every member of this system can effect on all family members and disorders family health and decrease their quality of life. Quality of life has been described as the richness of the individual's personal experience about social, occupational, and interpersonal functioning. This study aimed to determine feelings, perceptions and manner of thinking of participants about effect of patient with Alzheimer on quality of life alteration in family. Method: Based on that a focus group is a carefully planned discussion to obtain perceptions of a defined interest area, in this study, focus group was done to collect qualitative data about quality of life alteration in family of patient with Alzheimer. Then the data analyzed by considering to Words, Context, Internal consistency, Frequency or extensiveness of comments, Intensity of the comments, Specificity of responses and finally find the big ideas about quality of life alteration in family of patient with Alzheimer. Result: Result showed that Alzheimer effect on economical status, personal habits, sexual function, social interactions, physical and mental health and occupational function of the other members of the family. Conclusion: According to the results, disturbance in other family members of patient with Alzheimer can reduce their quality of life, so, we must support all of family members of patients with Alzheimer.
