Evaluation of anti-inflammatory effect of Trifluoperazine

Introduction: Inflammation is a protective response against some stimulates. Like chemical substances radiation trauma and invasive organisms which results pain necrosis and finally cause disruption in the quality of life .For this reason control and treatment of inflammation are very significance. Today in the whole word a lot of herbal and synthetic compounds are used as anti-inflammatory products and a lot of them are under investigation calcium-calmodulin complex plays an important role in the process of inflammation therefore any compound which can inhibit this complex may have anti-inflammatory effect .Researches have shown Trifluoperzine (TFP) which is an antipsychotic and ant emetic drug has inhibitory effect on this complex. Therefore it is expected that Trifluoperzine can have anti-inflammatory effect .The goal of this study is to reply to this hypothesis Material: For this reason the effect of anti-inflammatory of TFPat doses of 5,10 ,30and50mg/kg were evaluated by carrageen an-induced acute inflammation in male rats .In addition the plasma leakage in the inflamed tissue was evaluated by application of trypan blue. Result: Among the doses used ,only 10,30and50mg/kg doses showed anti-inflammatory and antiexudative effects but 5mg/kg dose had no such effects Although the anti-inflammatory mechanisms of this drug was not evident but from the results obtained from above evaluation Conclusion: We can say that TFP in addition of the already proved effects (antipsychotic and ant emetic) can have also anti-inflammatory effect.
