A review of the prevalence of female suicides and committing suicide in the past two decades in Iran

Introduction: Suicide is one of the main mental health risks and according to statisticss provided, every year about one million people lose their lives effect of suicide attempts. Suicide attempt, the eleventh the cause of death in the general population and is the third leading cause of death in the population 15-24 year. Many suicide attempts in women than men has been repeatedly reported. Therefore, this study aimed to review the prevalence of female suicides and suicide attempts in the past two decades in Iran. Methods: The review study the scientific search sites, Google scholar, magiran, Sid, PubMed and iranmedex with key words suicide, attempted suicide, women's mental health was conducted during 1995 and 2015. Results: Results of studies show states that most women surveyed in terms of socio-economic were mid-level And the level of literacy, illiterate until high school and was diploma level. Also showed that the mean age of 35.7 years was suicide. In (32.9%) to (47.1%) of these people had history of mental illness or suspected mental disorders. In previous studies conducted in the most cases of attempted suicide in women between 8/58 to 61 per cent. Most of the suicides motivated conflicts and family problems and also problems with spouse have been reported. More women committed suicide by self-immolation, drugs and toxins. Conflicting results between low-educated and had suicidal thoughts. Relationship of between the past committing suicides, drug addiction, smoking, improper psychological status of women and suicide ideation was significant. Discussion: Cases that somehow in women suicide played a role in the studies, including socioeconomic conditions, marital problems, psychiatric disorders, high intellectual conflicts, the desire for seclusion and away from human society, are some of them. Therefore is necessary that the planning and adopt policies that of isolation and isolation of other factors associated with suicide, for example, by going to mosques and other human healthy community action.
