چکیده :

Abstract: Background: Diabetes is one of the major stressors in life and one of the most common and most serious chronic diseases in childhood that is associated with a lot of psychological damages. Children and adolescents with diabetes, like children with other chronic diseases, may be at high risk for psychosocial problems and experience levels of anxiety and stress. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of an educational program based on BASNEF model on mental health and stress management in diabetic adolescents. Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study that was done on sixty adolescents referred to the 17-Shahrivar educational center of Rasht in two groups of intervention (30 people) and control (30 people) with convenience sampling. The intervention group received 3 sessions (60-minute) based on BAZNEF model. Data collection tools consisted of a questionnaire on resources and stress, a GHQ28 (Mental health questionnaire) questionnaire and demographic information. Data were collected before and three months after the intervention, and analyzed by SPSS software version 16 using descriptive and inferential statistics (multivariate analysis of covariance test). Results: The results of this study showed that there is a significant difference between the mean scores of pre-test and post-test in the experimental group (P <0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the anxiety of the subjects in the experimental group was significantly lower than the control group after the intervention and the average score of mental health has also been increased. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the educational program based on the BASNEF model can improve mental health and stress management in adolescents with diabetes.
