Abstract: Background: Research indicates that the age of onset of first acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is an essential element in the life expectancy that had been decreasing in developing countries. There are various studies performed in Iran reporting a range of age at AMI. Thus, this meta-analysis study is designed to determine the overall mean age at first AMI in the Iranian population. Methods: All studies the met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were reviewed using sensitive and standard keywords in the databases from 2000 to 2016. Two raters verified a total of 658 articles based on the inclusion criteria of this study. Sixteen studies were selected for this meta-analysis. The mean age at AMI of the patients in Iran with 95% confidence interval was reported. Cochran test was used for samples’ homogeneity (Tau-square). Pooled estimates of mean was calculated based on the random effect model. Results: The mean age was 59.47 (95% CI: 50.70 to 68.25) years for age of first AMI in Iranian patients was reported using the random effects model. The homogeneity assumption for the 16 reviewed studies was attained (Tau-square = 0.00). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that mean age at AMI in Iran was lower than that of developed countries. Lower age at AMI in Iran may be largely attributed to the improper lifestyle and diet changes.
