The Zagros fold-and-thrust belt is formed in a result of collision between Afro-Arabian plate and Iranian microcontinent. In this study, the thin-skinned tectonic in the Zagros fold-and-thrust belt and consequent changes in the basement is investigated. For this intention, 5 cross sections are chosen and the shortening which is resulted by contractional tectonic is examined along theme. Also, the shortening is displayed as strain ellipses on 2 of cross sections. According to the data which is attained from this study, a model is suggested for the Zagros fold-and-thrust belt. In the opinion of this study, the shortening is determined between 27.2-48.2 percent in the Zagros fold-and-thrust belt, the foreland of which has no basement involvement and it just contained some inverted grabens. Strain ellipses lead to more effective role of thrusting versus to folding in the total shortening resulted in the foreland.
