he Import Leakage Effect and the Effectiveness of Fiscal Policy: An Input-output Analysis. - The major objective of this paper is to suggest a methodology to measure the magnitude of import leakage from an economy within the framework of an input-output transactions table which does not distinguish between the domestic and imported inputs. The model was used in estimating the import leakages due to increased government spending using an Iranian Input-Output Table for 1973-74. It was shown that, due to the import structure of the Iranian economy in 1974, the government fiscal policy (mainly government spending) in controlling the aggregate demand was substantially limited in its effect. The simulation of the model indicates that the magnitude of total import leakages for all industries was 20 per cent of the estimated increase in 1977 government spending.
