Reproductive characteristics of siahmahi, Capoeta damascina, a native cyprinid in the Zayandeh-Rud River, were investigated by monthly sampling during March 2007 to April 2008. Among 689 specimens captured, the overall sex ratio (males: females) was 1:1.6. Males matured at age 2+. Females matured between fourth and sixth year of life with 100% maturity at age 7+. Based on the gonadosomatic index (GSI), data the reproduction period was found to be from May to June. According to histological and macrocopic characteristics of, the gonad, C. damascina is considered a group-synchronous species The individual absolute fecundity of C. damascina ranged from 2523 to 72645 (24811±17833) eggs for females measuring 25.5-54.2 cm (35.3±5.4) and weighting 320-2340 g (746±372). Fecundity increased with fish age, average being 9446 and 54503 eggs in mature females of (4+) and (8+) respectively.
