Implementing RDA as a response to the new information environment is becoming a trendy field among Iranian catalogers. But the main important point still focuses on an efficient implementation. Although Iran’s National Bibliography is AACR-based and although a great deal of effort has been made in order to align RDA with AACR, yet a separate study must focus on the proper operationalizing this implementation through analyzing current bibliographic records that would show us how much change is required to implement RDA in Iranian catalogs soundly; and this paper aims this goal. A Detailed checklist based on the RDA and UNIMARC intersection was applied to assess the current status of bibliographic records. These records are currently preserved in RASA-MARC format which is UNIMARC-based. A sample of 111 bibliographic records in the field of history (cataloged in 2007and 2012) was selected for this purpose. These records were analyzed according to the RDA codes that have been highlighted in the checklist. The results reveal that over 88% of the records show a rather good conformity with RDA, but 47% of the remaining problematic records show direct inconformity with RDA. Based on an In-depth analysis of the fields, most of the discrepancies deal with the assumed rules based on which the data is entered. Other problems such as data entry errors are also among the frequent problems of current records. Another interesting point is that in 2012 the frequency of these discrepancies and inconsistencies were increased; which is seriously important and requires to be properly addressed. The results of this study indicates that there is a good level of conformity between contents of current records and RDA; but as for the rest of the records there are some major tasks to be done. Training the staff and some moderate software alterations are considered to be of outmost importance.
