چکیده :

Introduction:Transmission of tuberculosis to identify and treat patients with sputum smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis continues. Standard for the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis sputum culture that is more sensitive than the sputum smear. The need for new diagnostic tools for early detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is palpable. This study aimed to assess the value of sputum culture in the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis in the past two decades in Iran. Materials & Methods:This review article by searching on Google scholar search engines and databases magiran, Sid, PubMed and iranmedex by keyword sputum culture, pulmonary tuberculosis and mycobacterium between 1995 and 2015 it is done. Results:The results showed that the average age of 9.52 to 77 years. 31 to 40 percent positive staining for Ziehl Nelson, 30 to 37.2% of positive cultures for Mycobacterium Tuberculosis in Estein and 47 to 53 percent had positive MODS culture. Various pathogens, including Streptococcus pneumoniae diagnosed to 88%, Candida to 2.76%, up 8.61% beta-hemolytic Streptococcus, and Staphylococcus 6 to 40% of the highest percentage of pathogens were identified. The role of other variables such as age, diabetes, smoking, weight loss and nationality is uncertain and requires full investigation is no longer especially for prospective. In various studies, sensitivity of PCR over culture and Bactec% 100, specificity to culture 91.66% and compared to Bactec 68.75% respectively was observed. Discussion:Taking into account the results of sputum culture in the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis, independent factors predictive of response in patients with related to extent of the destruction of lung tissue and the concentration of bacteria at the beginning of treatment in sputum volume. There is debate on the role of other factors in TB and more studies should be done.
