چکیده :

the world . The definitive host of the parasite , E granulosus , is dog which harbor the adult parasite and excrete the parasite eggs along with their feces, while livestock and human are the intermediate hosts. Hyatid disease is characterized by cyst containing numerous tiny protoscolices that most often develop in the liver and lungs . This paper is the rare report pf a complex form of hydatid cysts in a 6 year old female native cattle and diagnosis by histopathology. Materials & methods : The affected cow was euthanized by magnesium sulfate and necropsied in veterinary clinic of Urmia Islamic Azad University. Tissue samples were collected from affected areas of liver, lung , spleen, kidney and abomasum with cysts in size about 4_5 cm(vesicular and calcified) and fixed them in buffered formaline 10% . Histopathologic sections were prepared after trimming and processing the tissue which included : dehydrstion by ethanol, clearing by xylene, impregnation and embedding in paraffin . sections were cut in 5 M m thickness and were stained with haematoxylin and eosin(H&E). Results & conclusion : post mortem examination showed hepatic fascioliasis , hepatocholelithiasis and partial icter in carcass. In macroscopic appearance , there were many cysts in different size in liver and lung while one cyst was 4-5 cm inside spleen .In kidney and abomasums it was located as an adhesive cyst to organ . Microscopic observations revealed laminated membrane of the cyst surrounded by a thin necrotic layer. These characteristics confirmed parasitic and hydatid nature of cysts . Hydatiddisease due to Echinococcus granulosus endemic in cattle- and sheep- raising regions of the world such as central Europe, the Mediterranean countries , the Middle East, south America, Australia, New Zealand, and south Africa. Although hydatid cysts are known commonly to affect the liver and lung, in our report parasitic cysts affected also kidney, spleen , and abomasum . The high prevalence of hydatid cysts in domesticated farm animals, especially in sheep and cattle, , is likely to be related to the presence of green pastures, an abundance of animals, a shortage of industrial animal husbandry , and the presence of stray dogs infected with E. granulosus
