Asimpleandselectivemethodforthedeterminationofcadmiumionsinenvironmental samplesbyICP-AESaftersolid-phaseextractionwasdeveloped.Themethodis basedonthesorptionofCd2+ionsonaluminamodified by 1-((5-nitrofuran-2-yl))thiosemicarbazide (NFMTC) atpH of 6. Themetal ionretainedon solidphase bycomplexationwithligandwasthenelutedwith5.0mLof1molL-1nitricacid.Apreconcentrationfactorof120wasachieved by passing 600mLofsamplethroughthesolidphase,whilethelimitofdetection(LOD)wasfoundtobe0.025ngmL-1and relative standard deviation of ±2.2%(for 1.0 µgmL-1),under optimum conditions. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of cadmium in water, soil, some food samples, and environmental samples including black tea, rice, wheat, carrot, pistachio and tobacco.
