Abstract :The purpose of successor planning is the preparation of internal talent to fill key, sensitive and strategic jobs. Accordingly, one of the most important issues for the organization and its subject stakeholders is succession that is those responsible for guiding organizations in the future. There is no doubt that for successful establishing and implementing the program in an organization the presence of some channels is essential. The present study aimed to "investigate the pathology successful execution of succession plans in Gonabad University of Medical Sciences". The current study is an applied one and its method is descriptive analytical and its procedure is survey type. The population in this study is all the senior executives and experts at Gonabad medical sciences university from which a total of 181 persons from Morgan table were selected as sample population. For data collection, field procedures and standardized questionnaire was used after confirming the validity and reliability. . The data were analyzed with software SPSS. From Analyzing the main hypothesis of this study it can be concluded that the readiness of Gonabad University of Medical Sciences for successful implementation of the successor program for reasons such as Lack of university management support of succession planning, lack of a clear succession planning strategies and related programs, lack of qualified switching, lack of a unified active and well-equipped human resources management at the University, etc is not at the ideal level.
