An investigation into the therapeutic motivation of addicted patients referring to five therapeutic centers in the province of Amol

Addition is a biological, psychological and social illness that has different aspects. Different reasons that give rise to the emergence of addiction can occupy role as therapeutic motivations. The physical, psychological, social, economic and family reasons that lead to addiction can be considered as motivations for the treatment. The research purpose is to carry out an investigation into the therapeutic motivation of addicted patients referring to five therapeutic centers in the province of Amol. What is a cogent and compelling reason for the treatment is the subject of therapeutic motivation or the reason of the individual’s referral for the treatment. Therefore, psychologists should attempt to identify the reason of the individual’s referral or the treatment’s motivation in motivational interviews. In this research, we attempted to shed light onto physical, mental, financial, legal, familial and social reasons of patients. The statistical population included all the addicted individuals referring to the centers of rehabilitation organizations in Amol Province, out of which a sample of 100 patients was randomly selected and responded to the questionnaire. Results indicated that at least 4 or 5 simultaneous reasons cause the individuals to become addicted. Moreover, 4 or 5 reasons can also be regarded as motivational factors of the treatment among these patients and the sum of several factors besides one another can generate and enhance the motivation for the treatment. With regard to the statistical data toward changeability and dependence in this research, it can be concluded that 90% of the patients referring to the therapeutic centers have a combination of reasons (or several motivational factors) as their therapeutic motivation. Therefore, with regard to the data, the ratio of the combination of reasons is higher than a sole reason. Overall, physical, mental, financial, familial pressures, social issues and economic issues can be considered as a variable in generating the therapeutic motivation and it depends on the individuals’ thoughts and patient-related issues.
