چکیده :

This study examines four mugilid species: Mugil cephalus, Valamugil buchanani, Liza ramada and Liza subviridis from the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea on the basis 16S rRNA gene of mitochondrial DNA. Total DNA from the samples (n = 2 to 7) were extracted according to phenol-chloroform procedure. The extracted total DNAs were amplified using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and then sequenced. For DNA-sequencing, the samples were sent to Takapoozist Company and thereafter to France. The phylogenetic tree depicted in the current study using Maximum Parsimony and Neighbor-Joining methods represented a topology indicating that V. buchanani forms a sister group with Liza species. Analysis of the sequences showed great differences between Mugil species and the other studied species. Do the findings of this study suggest that Mugil species form a new family?
