In the third millennium, success and survival of organizations turns out to be more difficult day by day, due to increasing importance of competitiveness among organizations, in providing more various services in lower time and cost and with higher quality. One of the novel comments brought up, is lean thinking (Mottaghi, 2004: 353, as quoted by Gharayipour, 2007). The present study aims at stating different viewpoints about lean thinking in order to gain a unified comment about it. To this end, we are seeking the answer to the question, that what might be the characteristics of a lean thinking in educational organizations of the third millennium? It may be concluded, by studying the background of lean thinking researches, that it is a type of thinking dominant within an organization by emphasizing on trust, creating value, social responsibility, ethics, reasonability, fairness, independence, smoothing organization’s procedures, service, creativity, relations, social order, promoting qualitative standards, removal of wasting, institutionalization of scientific and practical experiences, as well as establishment of a comprehensive management system, standardization of processes, beliefs, icons, attitudes, and symbols
