In this study, the potential habitat was determined for two plant species of Salsola rigida and Agropyron trichophorum in Qasr-e Shirin region using the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) techniques. For this regard, after collecting and preparing different maps (thematic maps of vegetation cover and land uses and subjected maps of various organizations) the maps were digitized in order to provide required information layers for this study. The ARC / INFO software was used to digitize geology, vegetation, conventional states maps, and ILWIS software was used for digitizing of the topographic data layers. The TOSCA software was used for digitizing of soil maps and soil data layers of that were prepared by using the resource assessment map and land capability and existing reports and standardization of control profiles data. Land use map of Qasr-e Shirin city was prepared using IRS1 satellite imagery. The current habitats of studied species were determined by visiting the area and limiting it by GPS and marked on map. Three sites of both species were selected and 10 profiles were drilled randomly within each site in depth of 35 cm and soil samples were taken. The parameters such as EC ,Texture, pH and organic matter for each sample were measured. According to the results and considering the habitat suitability for the studied factors and integrating different information layers, from the total rangeland area (6270 hectares) 2 locations (1677.3 ha about 26% from total rangeland area) are fitted for Salsola rigida that 211 hectares (3/36%) from this area belongs to original habitats and 1466 ha remained belongs to the potential habitat for Salsola rigida. In addition, the results indicated that 2 areas include 1356.8 ha (21.63% total rangeland region) are appropriate for Agropyron trichophorum habitat that from this area 167 ha (2/66%) belongs to the current original habitats and about 1189.8 ha (18/97%) remained belongs to the potential habitat for Agropyron trichophorum.
