چکیده :

In this research, a cognitive skills training program was designed and implemented to examine its impact on improving achievement motivation and academic performance in adolescent girls. The study adopted an experimental design and included an experimental and a control group. The research sample consisted of 20 adolescent girls selected using random sampling method. The dependent variable (achievement motivation) was measured using Hermans’ Achievement Motivation Questionnaire. After the pretest, the experimental group participated in the cognitive skills training program for 8 sessions, 90 minutes each. The cognitive skills training program involved problem-solving, decision-making, time management and planning skills. At the end of the training program, Hermans’ Achievement Motivation Questionnaire was administered to both groups again. Academic performance of the subjects was examined by comparing their grade point average (GPA) in two semesters. The data were analyzed using covariance test. The results showed that cognitive skills training improved achievement motivation in the experimental subjects comparing with the control subjects. Besides, cognitive skills training improved academic performance in the experimental subjects comparing with the control subjects.
