چکیده :

Background: the movement from intervention towards prevention of diseases and promotion of health brought about significant changes not only in responsibilities and priorities of the system but also in the roles and responsibilities of the health care providers and receivers. Objective: the objective of the current research is to redefine roles and responsibilities of social workers in preventing diseases and promoting women's health level. Method: the current research is a qualitative study with a phenomenological appraoch based on Parsons role theory. The participants were 12 social workers active in the civil health sector of the city of Tehran; and 18 women receiving health care services who were chosen through targeted sampling, they were also interviewed. The social workers were chosen based on their experience in health sector for at least two years. Finally, the data were analyzed based on themes approach. Findings: 83 codes were derived from the collected data. After the decrease and merger of similar data the role of social worker in promoting health and mobilizing the financial sources, programmer, trainer, researcher, mediator, advisor, defendant and supporter on three levels of individual, collective and communal were determined. Argument and conclusion: social work's close and constant relation with health can be affiliated to this fact that many of the problems in the social work sector are inseparably related to social factors. In performing their roles, social workers bring about the necessary links among the corporeal, mental, social and economic influence on individual and the society. The roles of social workers are influenced by the individual's needs, demographic changes, poverty and social deprivation level, the level of comprehensiveness of social problems and the types of welfare policies; therefore, the roles of social workers differs according to the community which receives the services.
