Ethical Principles for Pharmaceutical Research

Introduction: Ethics answer to this question: What should I do in this situation? Research ethics are many principles and rules that investigators must attended them in all part of study in response to human rights. This article was aimed to describe principles and rules that pharmaceutical researchers must attended them in their researches. Methods: Based on literature review about research ethics and their applications in studies on drugs and their affects on animals and human and critique of them , this article shares with the reader the foundations and importance of research ethics in these researches. Results: Ethical principles for studies on trauma, disaster and other emergent situation include Respect for persons, Beneficence, Nonmaleficence, Proportionality, and Justice. Respect for persons includes fundamental respect for the other; it should be the basis of any interaction between professional and client. The duty to respect the self-determination and choices of autonomous persons, as well as to protect persons with diminished autonomy .Beneficence: The obligation to secure the well-being of persons by acting positively on their behalf and, moreover, to maximize the benefits that can be attained .Nonmaleficence: The obligation to minimize harm to persons and, wherever possible, to remove the causes of harm altogether. Proportionality: The duty, when taking actions involving the risks of harm, to so balance risks and benefits that actions have the greatest chance to result in the least harm and the most benefit to persons directly involved. Justice: The obligation to distribute benefits and burdens fairly, to treat equals equally, and to give reasons for differential treatment based on widely accepted criteria for just ways to distribute benefits and burdens. Conclusions: With respect to above, investigators should attend to these principles through study design in the future.
