Prevalence of violence against women (domestic violence) and its influencing factors in the past two decades in Iran

Background: Violence against women (domestic violence) with regard to social consequences, political and health, in the past few decades as one of the most important issues in the field of women's studies has been proposed. This study aimed to assess prevalence of violence against women (domestic violence) and its influencing factors in the past two decades in Iran. Methods: This review article by searching on Google scholar search engines and databases magiran, Sid, PubMed and iranmedex by keyword women, spouse abuse and violence between 1990 and 2015 it is done. Results: The results of different studies showed that up to 81.7 percent of wife abuse research reports that three aspects: physical domestic violence between 33.25 to 34.5 percent, 51.7 percent psychological domestic violence and sexual harassment wife was up to 13.8 percent who suffer from the disorder in all aspects of public health Age, education, occupation and income couple with the husband of wife abuse there is a significant relationship. Mean comparison showed that more men to abuse women and men act of violence. Between partner violence and there was a significant relationship between duration of marriage and pregnancy. The level of violence in the duration of their marriage less than five years, first pregnancy, low economic level and unemployed and drug addicted husbands was statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: According to the results of research in Iran, it seems that the high incidence of domestic violence, it is clear that the spread of a culture of dialogue and discussion within the family, reduce conflict in the family, educational measures to change men's violent behavior, empowering women and girls, and the training of social and individual rights can be effective in preventing or reducing violence.
