چکیده :

Background: Thalassemia is the most common inherited disease in the world and Iran. Beta-thalassemia is a complex disease that requires special medical and medicine treatment. Hepatitis B and C are the most common viral hepatitis in patients with dialysis and beta thalassemia. This study investigated comparison prevalence of hepatitis B, C and HIV between beta thalassemia and hemodialysis patients. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive survey, file of patients referred to hemodialysis and beta thalassemia centers of dezful were studied. Data were collected by means of check lists including age, gender, catching to hepatitis B, C and HIV. Spss software and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. Results: In patients with hemodialysis 74 (58.73%) patients were male and other were female. In these patients prevalence of hepatitis B was 0.79%, hepatitis C was 0.79%, and HIV was 0%. From 195 patients with thalassemia, 114 (%58.4) were males and 81 (%41.5) were women. From these patients 11 patients (%5.6) with hepatitis C, 5 patients (%2.5) with hepatitis B and Zero patients (%0) with HIV were evaluated. The relationship between prevalence of hepatitis B and C between two groups was statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusions: Beta thalassemia patients due to receive regular and frequent blood, compared to dialysis patients are at higher risk to comorbidities. These patients needs to further follow-up and screening.
