Background: ESR stands for erythrocyte sedimentation rate. It is a test that indirectly measures how much infection and inflammation is in the body. The sample for use in this test is blood containing sodium citrate but sometimes in the laboratories are used EDTA samples. The aim of this study review the difference results of ESR between sodium citrate and EDTA blood samples. Methods: 100 blood samples was collected in sodium citrate tubes and EDTA tubes. ESR was done on both of samples. Results: The mean of ESR in sodium citrate samples was 18.57±2.30 mm/h and in EDTA samples was 16.55±2.05 mm/h. There was a significant difference between results of ESR in sodium citrate and EDTA samples (p<0.001). Conclusion: Our results was indicated that there was a relationship between ESR results of these samples. Then when we use EDTA samples instead of sodium citrate, we must correct it.
