چکیده :

The marine habitats of Iran consist of northern parts of the Persian Gulf (=Arabian Gulf) and Sea of Oman which border the country on the south side from Iraq on the west to Pakistan on the east. Fishes of these waters contain species of considerable economic importance and species that are endemic to the region. These books cover the marine fishes of these regions. The first thorough scientific treatment of fishes of these regions was by Blegvad (1944). His book was translated to Farsi by E. Etemad and B. Mokhayer in 1979. He recognized 216 species in 70 families. Randall et al. (1978) recognized 222 species from the region. This book was trilingual and the Farsi part was translated by A. Kayvan. These two books are the third and fourth attempts to give a summary of the Iranian marine fishes in Farsi, although with different approaches and goals. The “Atlas” is written in Farsi and English, the “Southern Iranian fishes” is written in Farsi, but use scientific and English names of fishes. The authors are biologist, zoologist, and fisheries scientists at the Iranian Fisheries Research and Training Organization (IFRTO).
