چکیده :

Library standards are regulations that can be used to measure the quality of libraries services. These standards can be applied as a desired pattern, sampling strategies, evaluation criterion, and motivation for the development, planning and library management. At the national level, the office document and equipment committee of the National Standard Organization and at the international level, the information and documentation committee of the International Standard Organization and the standard committee of IFLA(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions)are responsible for the compiling and revision of librarianship and library standards. Iran has a long history in compiling the library standards which started in 40s with all efforts done by the Library Services Centre which was the beginning of a new librarianship in Iran. But in recent years, experts in library and information science have not seriously considered Standard Programming and have not been appropriately connected to Iran's National Standards Organization, as the only official reference for compiling and publishing the national standards. This article makes the information experts, librarians and libraries managers familiar with the importance and necessity of the library standards and based on the authors’ experiences in cooperation with the commissions and committees of Iran’s National Standard Organization, provides operational guidelines for compiling the library standards and also invites experts of information sciences, librarians and students of information sciences to participate in standard programming for libraries and Information centers.
