چکیده :

Dermatophytes are a group of keratinophilic fungi with ability to invade the keratinized tissues. They are classified into three genera, Microsporum, Epidermophyton and Trichophyton. They have worldwide distribution, however more prevalent in the tropical and subtropical climate. Several topical and systemic antifungal drugs were used for the treatment of dermatophytosis caused by dermatophytes. However, each antifungal drugs has different activity against the isolates of dermatophytes. The current study aimed to comparison the efficiency of common antifungal drugs, terbinafine, miconazole, fluconazole and griseofulvin against several isolates of dermatophytes. Forty five strains of dermatophyte including, E. floccosum (13), T. rubrum (10), T. verrucosum (10), T. mentagrophytes (7), M. canis (3), T. violaceum (2) were subjected for the antifungal susceptibility tests. In the present study, several antifungal drugs, such as terbinafine, griseofulvin, fluconazole and miconazole were used for the susceptibility tests. The antifungal susceptibility assay was demonstrated that 100% (n=45) of isolates were susceptible to terbinafine, griseofulvin, and miconazole. On the contrary, 97.7% (n=44) of isolates were resistant to fluconazole and one isolate only showed intermediate susceptibility. In conclusion, this study revealed that terbinafine, griseofulvin, miconazole and fluconazole are very active against tested dermatophytes. In addition the excellent efficiency of terbinafine against all species of dermatophytes was observed.
