چکیده :

Mesna, also known as sodium 2-mercaptoethane sulfonate, is a well-established chemoprotective agent used to prevent hemorrhagic cystitis induced by ifosfamide and cyclophosphamide in cancer patients. Over the years, mesna has been extensively studied for its pharmacological properties and clinical efficacy. This review article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of mesna and its analytical techniques. The article will cover the chemical structure and properties of mesna, its mechanism of action in preventing bladder toxicity, and its pharmacokinetics. Furthermore, it will discuss the various analytical techniques employed for the quantification and characterization of mesna, including high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. In addition, the review will highlight the recent advancements in analytical methods for mesna detection, including the development of novel biosensors and immunoassays. The article will also address the challenges and limitations associated with mesna analysis, such as sample preparation and matrix interference. Overall, this review aims to serve as a valuable resource for researchers, clinicians, and pharmaceutical scientists involved in the study and development of mesna-based therapies. By consolidating the current knowledge on mesna and its analytical techniques, this article seeks to facilitate further advancements in the understanding and application of this important chemoprotective agent.
