Background and Aim: plastics are widely used in many applications but plastics and synthetic polymers are mainly produced using petrochemical materials that cannot be decomposed and thus they contribute to environmental pollution and also dangerous to a number of animal species. We investigated optimization of poly (3-hydroxy butyrate) (PHB) production by Entrobacter ludwigii IRU1 in batch culture system. Methods: Vrious batch experiments were carried out at different carbon source concentrations [KH2PO4 at 0.01-0.03% (w/v)] Nitrogen source concentration [NH4CL at 0.02 – 0.06% (w/v)] and twmperaures [37, 40, 43 °C]. Results: in these experiments, optimum condition of PHB was determined using the Taguchi method. The results showed the highest PHB production by Entrobacter ludwigii IRK1 (62.71% of cell dry weight) is 1.85 g/l and this space has ability for synthesis of PHB from molasses.
