Introduction: Basil is an annual plant, member of Lamiaceae family with the scientific name of the Ocimum basilicum. Researchers have proved that essential oils of Basil against unwanted growth of many types of bacteria such as several species that have shown resistance to conventional antibiotics have shown therapeutic effect and effective protection. Jews and Greeks and Romans considered garlic (Allium sativum) as a panacea and used it in therapy. Aim of this study was to investigate the antibacterial effect of herbs (Basil and Garlic) in compared to the antibiotics streptomycin, kanamycin and penicillin on pathogenic bacteria isolated from patients referred to clinical laboratories Urmia city. Materials and method: In present study Garlic and basil essential oils effect compared to the antibiotics; streptomycin, kanamycin and penicillin by disk diffusion method (Kirby & Bauer) with 8 repetitions on the 4 pathogenic bacteria include Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Escherichia coli. Results: The results indicate that in comparison between essential oils of Basil and Garlic, the Basil effect is more than garlic but impact of them is less than antibiotics. Conclusion: The results of this study concluded that despite the low impact of medicinal plants, they can be used as antibacterial drugs in the pharmaceutical industry and the food industry to prevent corruption
