Quality of life and related factors in women with thalassemia major in Dezful

Background: Thalassemia is very stressful. especially female encounter the physical, mental and social. Also according to the thalassemia and its complications can affect the quality of life of these patients, Therefore, this study aimed to assess Quality of life and related factors in women with thalassemia major in Dezful. Methods: This cross-sectional study on women with thalassemia in thalassemia Clinic of Hospital Dezful was performed. SF-36 questionnaire was used to measure quality of life. To analyze the data SPSS software and descriptive statistics such as frequency, mean and inferential statistics such as t-test and ANOVA used. Results: In this study, 45 women with thalassemia with an average age of 22.95 years were included. Of these, %88.9 were single, %68.9 in rural areas, %40 had a history of hospitalization, %53.3 had a history of surgery. The average score of quality of life was 72.94 that represents satisfactory quality of life in these women. The lowest and highest scores for quality of life were in the energy/fatigue and pain. Between quality of life and marital status, history of hospitalization, history of surgery, education and blood group were not statistically significant correlation (p> 0.05). There was a significant correlation between quality of life and place of residence (p= 0.005). CONCLUSIONS: Despite the quality of life of the people in some aspects such as energy / fatigue requires special attention and provide appropriate solutions are. Due to the lower quality of life in rural women than urban women, pay more attention to their demands.
