چکیده :

Introduction and objectives: Acquired immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in humans causes immunodeficiency syndrome. Parasitic infections are one of the most common opportunistic infections and one of the most frequent causes of morbidity and mortality associated with HIV-infected. Parasitic infections may have dangers in people with AIDS, including digestive problems, and most of all deaths. This study was carried out to evaluate the prevalence of intestinal parasites in AIDS patients referred to counseling centers in Sabzevar city. Materials and Methods: In this study, stool samples were taken from 192 patients with AIDS and all stool specimens were tested by direct methods. Three species of protozoa and 1 species of helminths were recorded as follows: Entamoeba coli (28.8%), Isospora (8.4%), Giardia lamblia (47.4%), Ascaris lumbricoides (15.2%). Results and conclusion: According to the results, this study showed that the highest level of infection was related to Giardia and the lowest infection rate was due to Isospora. Due to the immunodeficiency in these patients, it is recommended that patients use anti-parasitic drugs.
