چکیده :

This article reviews the development of non-invasive optical techniques for determination of blood glucose concentrations in diabetic patients. Early diagnosis and daily management are very important to diabetes patients for ensuring a healthy life. The determination of blood glucose concentration with prevalent devices involves the chemical analysis of blood samples that have been taken by pricking the finger or extracting blood from forearm. The pain, discomfort and inconvenience in the current invasive method have led to the spread investigations in non-invasive measurement techniques. Non-invasive blood glucose monitoring offers several advantages, such as the absence of pain and exposure t o sharp objects and biohazard materials, the potential for increased frequency of testing, and hence, tighter control of the glucose concentrations. These potential advantages have led to considerable interest in the commercialization of non-invasive glucose monitoring devices. Several optical technologies have potential for leading to feasible non-invasive measuring devices; this review aims to describe the main optical technologies for non-invasive glucose monitoring and compare their advantages and disadvantages.
