The historical study of religious tourism in Islamic Civilization

Among the various types of tourism, religious tourism is the oldest. In every human civilization, there has been enthusiasm to visit religious places and figures. In the present research, the factors contributing to development of religious tourism in Islamic civilization were studied through a historical and analytical method. Doubtlessly, people throughout the history have never been encouraged to tourism as much as they were in the Islamic civilization; a fact that arises a question regarding the reasons behind such development. Have there been merely spiritual motives involved? Or Political, economic and cultural factors have been influential as well?
