Aphanius vladykovi (Coad, 1988), Zagros pupfish, Mahi-e gour-e khari

The Zagros pupfish is an endemic species found in a restricted area of the central Zagros Mountains of Iran. In Farsi it is known as mahi-e gour-e khari (= literally "striped donkey fish", i.e. zebrafish). Its biology is almost entirely unknown and the only literature on this species is the original description (Coad, 1988). This is a very attractive species to have in any aquarium and it could prove rewarding for studies on ecology and reproductive behaviour as well.
