Investigating the effect of urbanization phenomenon on the issue of environmental pollution in the countries of MENA region

The problem of environmental pollution in large cities, and problems caused by it that has been discussed in many communities. Therefore it has always tried to identify the factors that may cause environmental pollution, because by identifying the factors affecting environmental pollution we can step in to achieve safe and high quality human resources and sustainable development. On the other hand one of the effective factors on environmental pollution, especially in large city is the urbanization phenomenon. Therefore by the importance of urbanization effect on environmental pollution, this study is investigating the effect of urbanization phenomenon on environmental pollution in the countries of MENA region (especially Iran) during 1990-2009. These results show that the urbanization phenomenon has had a remarkable effect on increasing the environmental pollution in countries that have been studied. Also among the countries that have been studied, Iran and Turkey don’t have a good condition in pollution indicators; however these two countries in comparison with other countries are faced more with the urbanization phenomenon.
