چکیده :

A pot experiment was conducted to elucidate the effects of elemental sulphur timing (0, 20 and 40 days before planting) and application rates (0, 0.5, 1 and 2 g S per kg of soil) on soil Al availability and maize growth. The results showed that the highest rate of sulphur significantly increased soil extractable Al at planting and harvest. The concentration of Al in leaves and stem was not significantly affected by S rate. Reflecting the ability of maize to prevent the Al transfer from roots to stem and leaves, root Al content was very high and ranged from 139 to 179 mg kg-1. However, those of leaves and stem were below 33.2 and 1.6 mg kg-1 dry matter respectively.
