Isolation of Cryptococcus neoformans var. gattii from Eucalyptus in Ahvaz

Introduction: The basidiomycetous yeast genus Cryptococcus containsthe two medically pathogens C. neoformans and C. Gattii. C. neoformans is a numerous AIDS pathogen, C. gattiiis most caseshappen in otherwise apparently healthy people C. gattii is more geographically restricted than C. neoformans and confined to tropical and subtropical regions for example: in Australia which eucalyptus trees (E. tereticornis, E. citriodora and E. camaldulensis) have been exported. Cryptococcus neoformans var. gattii has a tendency for the respiratory and nervous systems of humans. Materials & methods: A total of 156 samples of flowers, fruits, leaves, bark, soil underneath trees, were collected over a period 6month.5 to 10 g of each sample was removed and mixed with 25 ml of sterile distilled water in 250-ml chloramphenicol flasks.From the supernatant of each sample, 0.2 ml were inoculated on a plate containing niger seed agar and incubated at 30˚C for 2 weeks and were observed daily. All isolates were first tested for urease production and growth at 37°C and India ink. Results and Discussion: Saprophyte, Candida and yeast blackhas been isolated from Niger seed plates. But none of the mucoid brown colonies weren‟t urease positive. The reason of that yeast is no found, it is not means that there is no yeast in the region.
