Investigating the causes of hospitalization in cardiac intensive care unit of dezful large hospital in 2014-2015

Background: Today cardiovascular disease as one of the factors threatening human health and as the most important cause of death is known in our country. Over one million people in the United States with a diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction admitted to coronary care units and 59 million people are infected with one type of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease.This study aimed to investigating the causes of hospitalization in cardiac intensive care unit of dezful large hospital in 2014. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study by using medical records of all patients admitted to cardiac intensive care unit of large hospital of Dezful from March 2014 to March 2015 was performed. Collecting data by using check list includes sex, cause and time of hospitalized was performed. Data analysis was performed by using spss software and descriptive statistics. Results: In this period 1743 people were hospitalized in cardiac intensive care unit. Of these, 861 cases (49.4 percent) in the first six months and 882 patients (50.6%) were in the second half of the year. In terms of time lowest and most patients, respectively was in March and February with 119 cases (6.8%) and 164 (9.4 percent). Most common cause of hospitalization of these patients with 887 cases (50.8%) for unstable angina, myocardial infarction, 263 cases (15.08%) and congestive heart failure, with 220 cases (12.6%) was observed. Conclusions: The results show that the most common cause of acute coronary syndrome and admitted to the intensive care unit is unstable angina that require more attention in terms of prevention and treatment and special care programs. Complementary studies are recommended in this regard and in other parts of the country.
