Survey the self-efficacy of mothers with hospitalized neonates: A cross-sectional study

Abstract: Introduction: Motherhood is a dynamic and stressful process, also lacking any instruction and affiliated with culture and society. Although the mother experiences is a happy time, but sometimes it can be accompanied by many problems and changes due to the care of the baby. Neonate birth is one of the things that make mothers in troublesome situations. With the birth of a neonate, the natural maintenance of the baby and the role of parents particularly, the role of the mother is affected. Self-efficacy is the main factor affecting the correct functioning and responsibility of mothers and the determinant factor the main function of the mother is the close relationship with the child's evolution. So the present study aims to survey the self-efficacy of mothers with neonates referring to 17- Shahrivar educational center of Rasht, Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional and analytical study was conducted on mothers of hospitalized neonates with convenience sampling on 2017 from August to October. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and perceived maternal parenting self-efficacy (PMP S-E) questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive (mean, SD) and inferential statistics (Chi-Square) at a significant level of p≤0.05. Results: The results show that the self-efficacy of mothers with hospitalized neonates is poor (P<0.05). There was no significant relationship between demographic characteristics of mothers and their level of efficiency (P>0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the rate of self-efficacy in mothers with hospitalized neonates is at a low level, therefore, it is recommended to provide trained and tailored training to mothers' educational needs.
