چکیده :

In a dry country such as Iran, particularly in its southern regions, the most reliable water sources are the groundwater which provides the world’s largest supplies of accessible freshwater. In this study, the AHP method has been used to evaluate the potential sources of groundwater basins of Birjand Basin. To achieve this goal, such criteria and sub-criteria as rainfall, lithology, topology and hydrology of the area which could affect this evaluation, were examined. Given the importance of any of these factors on the potential evaluation process, each factor was subsequently given its specified weight and intensity. Finally, in order to prepare a potential map of existing parameters, several areas were designated for extracting groundwater. Ultimately, it became clear that the Basin has the highest potential in central and east central regions; in addition, the total area of the Basin is considerable to the regions with highest potential. The results of this study can be effectively used in the groundwater management and extraction projects.
