The main objective of this study was to assess the factors influential in sustainable farming in Shirvan and Cherdavel Town of Ilam Province. The study is a descriptive-correlational research conducted as a survey. The population includes all professional farmers who cultivated rice in the years of 2011-2012 (N = 2550). Among thses farmers, 185 were selected in multi-staged stratified random sampling using the Cochran formula. In order to determin the validity and reliability of research tools, a pre-test (30 people outside the main sample) was conducted in which the resulting coefficients confirm the validity and the reliability of the research questionnaire. The findings reveal that 67.82 percent of the rice farmers have average knowledge of sustainable farming, and 42.01 percent have moderate attitude toward the sustainability of rice cultivation. Besides, there is a 95 percent significant and positive correlation between the sustainability of rice and variables such as age, size of whole of the (fammer's) farm, size of the farms in which rice is cultivated, social participation, knowledge of sustainable farming, attitude toward sustainable farming, amount of extention contacts and education.
