Fuzzy modeling is an active area in the soft computing which is arisen from many branches of science and industry in the practice. One of major task in the fuzzy modeling is to assign or to approximate membership functions corresponding to either given fuzzy numbers or given sample data. Here, we propose a mathematical programming problem to fit a trapezoidal fuzzy number to the given sample data. The proposed mathematical program is a mixed quadratic program.
